Getting a Good Faith Estimate

Right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of outpatient rehabilitation costs

Under certain circumstances, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the cost for medical items and services, including outpatient rehabilitation services.

• Depending on when you schedule your service, your provider may be required to provide a GFE between 1 and 3 business days after you schedule.

• You can also ask your health care provider for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

• If you receive a bill that is substantially more than your GFE, you can dispute the bill.

• Make sure to save a copy or picture of your GFE.
